Spellevator is an exciting educational computer game. It was made for the Apple II computer. The company MECC released this game in 1988.
How to Play Spellevator
In Spellevator, you control a cute little dust bunny. This dust bunny is being chased by several vacuum cleaners. Each vacuum cleaner moves in a different way.
Your main goal in each level is to collect all the letters. After you have all the letters, you need to find the exit. The exit is always in the top left corner of the screen.
To move around the game, you can use elevators. If an elevator is empty, you can use it. But first, you must correctly answer a spelling or vocabulary question. Some of the vacuum cleaners can also use these elevators!
When you finish a level, you get a chance for a bonus. You can earn extra points by unscrambling the letters you collected. If you put them together to form a correct word, you get the bonus!
Making Your Own Word Lists
Spellevator also came with a special tool. This tool was on the other side of the game disk. It let players, or even teachers, create their own word lists.
You could save these new word lists onto a ProDOS formatted floppy disk. This was great for teachers. They could make the game use the exact vocabulary words their students were learning in class.
What Came Next
After Spellevator, a newer version was released. This game was called Spellevator Plus. It was made for even more types of computers.
