Spencer Christian, born on July 23, 1947, is a well-known American television broadcaster. He is famous for being the weather forecaster on ABC's Good Morning America from 1986 to 1998. Today, he works as the weather forecaster for KGO-TV in San Francisco. Christian has also written several books for children.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Spencer Christian was born in Newport News, Virginia, in 1947. He started his career in broadcasting at a TV station called WWBT in Richmond, Virginia. There, he worked as a news reporter. He covered important topics like state and local politics. He also reported on the public school system.

In 1975, Christian became a weatherman for the first time. This happened in Baltimore, Maryland, at WBAL-TV. He joined their Action News team.

Moving to New York City

After his time in Baltimore, Christian moved to New York City. He worked for WABC-TV from 1977 to 1986. During these years, he had many roles. He was a general reporter, a weatherman, and even a sportscaster for Eyewitness News.

Time on Good Morning America

In August 1986, Spencer Christian joined Good Morning America. This was a very popular morning show on the ABC network. He became their main weather forecaster. He also traveled around the United States and other countries. He reported on many different subjects, from current events to interesting human stories.

For a short time, from 1992 to 1993, Christian also hosted a music game show. It was called Triple Threat and was shown on the BET cable network.

Life After Good Morning America

Spencer Christian left Good Morning America at the end of 1998. In January 1999, he started a new job. He became the weather forecaster for KGO-TV in San Francisco, California. He still holds this position today.

He also hosted a show called Spencer Christian's Wine Cellar on HGTV. This show was on from 1995 to 1999. Since 1997, Christian has also hosted the PBS train series Tracks Ahead.

In 2006, he began hosting a popular afternoon show in San Francisco. It was called The View from the Bay. Christian has even returned to Good Morning America a few times. In June 2014, he filled in as a substitute weather forecaster. He also came back on November 19, 2015. This was to celebrate the show's 40th Anniversary.

Author and His Books

Spencer Christian is also an author. He has written several children's books. In 2018, he wrote a book about his own life. It is called You Bet Your Life: How I Survived Jim Crow Racism, Hurricane Chasing, and Gambling. In this book, he shares many of his life experiences.
