The Spialia rosae, also known as the Rosy Skipper, is a small and quick-flying butterfly. It belongs to the Hesperiidae family, which are often called "skippers" because of their fast, darting flight. This special butterfly can only be found in one country: Spain.

About the Rosy Skipper Butterfly

The Rosy Skipper butterfly was officially named in 2016 by a group of scientists. Its scientific name, Spialia rosae, gives us a clue about one of its favorite things.

Where Does It Live?

This unique butterfly is an endemic animal of Spain. This means you won't find it living naturally anywhere else in the world! It makes its home only within the borders of Spain.

What Does It Eat?

Like all butterflies, the Rosy Skipper starts its life as a larva, or caterpillar. These young caterpillars have a very specific diet. They love to munch on the leaves of rose plants. This is why the butterfly is sometimes called the "Rosy Skipper."

Life Cycle of the Rosy Skipper

The life cycle of the Rosy Skipper, like other butterflies, involves several stages. It begins as an egg, which hatches into a larva (caterpillar). The caterpillar spends its time eating and growing, mostly on rose plants. After growing enough, it changes into a pupa. Finally, the adult butterfly emerges from the pupa, ready to fly and lay its own eggs, continuing the cycle.
