Sportverein Austria Salzburg facts for kids
The Sportverein Austria Salzburg, often called SV Austria Salzburg, is a football club from Salzburg, Austria. This club was started in 2005. It was created after the older club, also called Austria Salzburg, was taken over by a company called Red Bull.
A New Start for Austria Salzburg
The club was officially founded in September 2005. This happened because fans of the original SV Austria Salzburg were not happy. Their old club, which started in 1933, was bought by Red Bull. The new owners changed the club's name to FC Red Bull Salzburg.
Many supporters did not like these changes. They felt the club's history and traditions were being lost. So, they decided to start a new club. This new club would keep the name SV Austria Salzburg. They wanted to make sure the club's traditions lived on. They looked at other fan-run clubs for ideas, like AFC Wimbledon in England.
Climbing the Leagues
When SV Austria Salzburg first started, they played in a lower league. In the 2005/06 season, they joined forces with another team, PSV Schwarz-Weiß. They played in the Salzburger Landesliga, which was the fourth-highest league in Austria.
After that season, the cooperation ended. SV Austria Salzburg had to start even lower, in the seventh-highest league in Austrian football. Their very first game as the new SV Austria Salzburg was on July 29, 2006. They played against Lieferinger SV, another team from Salzburg, and won with a great score of 6–0!
The team then began to win their leagues year after year. They kept getting promoted to higher divisions. By the 2010/11 season, they had reached the Regionalliga West. This is the third-highest league in the Austrian football system. It shows how quickly they moved up!
