This community began in the early 1880s. This was when the Texas Mexican Railway built its tracks through the county. The railway helped new communities like Springfield grow.

Changes Over Time

A post office opened in Springfield in 1909. By 1910, about 100 people lived there. However, by 1914, the number of residents dropped to only eight. The post office then closed in 1918.

A map from the 1930s showed that Springfield still had a school and a few homes. By the late 1980s, it was a spread-out rural area. Today, it remains a quiet, unincorporated community.
