The Sweet Story of Spunk Candy
How Spunk Got Its Unique Name
In 1971, the candy makers at Galle & Jessen needed a name for their new treat. They found the word "Spunk" in a Pippi Longstocking book called Pippi in the South Seas. In the story, Pippi makes up this word just for fun.
The candy boxes show the name Spunk along with a drawing. This drawing is of a "fantasy animal" and was created by an 8-year-old girl.
Fun Facts Inside the Box
Just like another Danish candy called Ga-Jol pastilles, Spunk boxes have a special feature. Inside the lid of each box, you will find a small saying or a piece of advice. It's a little surprise with your candy!
Different Kinds of Spunk Candy
Spunk candy comes in a few tasty versions:
- Salty Liquorice Pastilles: These are small, firm candies made from salty liquorice. They come in a black box.
- Fruity Wine Gums: These are soft, chewy wine gums. They come in four different fruit flavors and colors: red, yellow, green, and orange. You'll find these in a green box.
- Cola-Flavored Wine Gums: These are brown wine gums that taste like cola. They are sold in a brown box.
Each small box of Spunk candy usually holds about 20 or 23 grams of candy.
