The Spur House is a special old home located near Old Common Road in Dublin, New Hampshire. It was built in 1901 and is a great example of a building style called Colonial Revival. A famous architect named Charles A. Platt designed it. Because of its history and design, the Spur House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This list helps protect important places in the United States.
About the Spur House
The Spur House sits on a small hill called Beech Hill. From here, you can see the beautiful Dublin Pond. You reach the house by driving up a winding road from Old Common Road.
What the House Looks Like
The house has two stories and is made of wood. It has a sloped roof and its outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards called clapboards. The front of the house has five sections, with windows placed evenly around the main door.
The main entrance has a special frame with a pointed roof shape above it. One of the windows on the upper floor has a rounded top. This window is right above the staircase inside the house.
On the east side of the house, there is an open porch. It has a pergola, which is a structure with a framework that climbing plants can grow on. On the west side, a part was added later in the 1900s, which includes an enclosed porch.
History of the House
The Spur House was designed by the architect Charles A. Platt. It was built in 1901. Platt designed the house for his sister, Mrs. Francis Jencks. She wanted it for her sister-in-law's family.
The Jencks family also owned a much larger home called Beech Hill. This mansion is located further up the hill from the Spur House. Charles A. Platt also designed the Beech Hill mansion. Both the Spur House and Beech Hill are among a few summer homes in Dublin that were designed by Platt.
