Princess Stéphanie, Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg was born on 18 February 1984. Her full birth name is Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy. She is married to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume. He is the next in line to become the ruler of Luxembourg.

Stéphanie and Guillaume got engaged on 26 April 2012. They had a civil wedding on 19 October 2012. A religious ceremony followed the next day. They have two sons, Prince Charles and Prince François.

Early Life and Family Background

Stéphanie Marie Claudine Christine de Lannoy was born in Ronse, Belgium. This was on 18 February 1984. She is the youngest of eight children. Her parents were Count Philippe de Lannoy and Alix della Faille de Leverghem.

The House of Lannoy is a very old family. Its history goes back to the 13th century. Members of this family were known for their military skills. They also held important government jobs.

Education and Work Experience

Stéphanie went to school in Belgium and France. She studied at Sancta Maria de Ronse and Collège Saint-Odile. Later, she returned to Brussels for more studies. She also spent a year in Moscow. There she learned Russian language and literature.

She studied German philology at the University of Louvain. She also earned a master's degree. This was from Humboldt University of Berlin. Stéphanie can speak many languages. These include French, Luxembourgish, English, and German.

Marriage and Becoming a Mother

Stéphanie first met Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume in 2004. They were at a social event in Germany. They met again in 2009 and began dating. They dated for about two years before getting engaged. Their engagement was announced on 26 April 2012.

Countess Stéphanie and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume had a civil wedding on 19 October 2012. It took place at the Town Hall. Their religious wedding was the next day. This was at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Luxembourg. Stéphanie wore a special dress. It was designed by Elie Saab. She also wore the Lannoy family diamond tiara.

Stéphanie and Guillaume have two sons. Their first son, Charles, was born on 10 May 2020. Their second son, François, was born on 27 March 2023. Charles and François are second and third in line to the throne of Luxembourg.

Stéphanie became a citizen of Luxembourg. She gave up her Belgian citizenship. She explained that she wanted to share her husband's nationality. She felt it was important for her role.

As the Hereditary Grand Duchess, Stéphanie is very busy. She travels with her husband on visits to other countries. She also attends many events in Luxembourg.

Since 2012, she has been on the board of the Fondation du Grand-Duc et de la Grande-Duchesse. In 2016, she became the chair of the board for The Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art. She became its honorary president in 2021. In 2013, she became a patron of Les Amis des Musées d’art et d’histoire du Luxembourg. She often takes part in their "Midis de l'Art" events.

In 2014, she became a patron of Scienteens Lab. This is a research lab for high school students. It focuses on biomedical research. She also supports Blëtz asbl. This group helps people affected by stroke. She attends events for World Stroke Day. She learns about treatments and conditions.

Since 2017, she has been honorary president of De Mains de Maîtres Luxembourg. This group supports skilled artisans. She is also a patron of Lët'z Arles. This group helps Luxembourg photographers show their work. The Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess also organized an exhibition in 2016. It aimed to promote Luxembourg crafts. Princess Stéphanie often visits local organic farms. She also attends academic talks on farming.

In July 2021, Princess Stéphanie opened the Ettelbruck Agricultural Fair. She was with her husband and son. On 12 July, she visited nursing homes in Luxembourg. She met elderly people and checked on their well-being. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic. She thanked the staff for their hard work. In November, she attended art exhibitions. In May 2022, she went to a charity concert. It was called "Luxembourg For Peace." The concert raised money for victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
