Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg (born 11 November 1981) is the oldest child of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. He is the heir apparent, meaning he is next in line to become the ruler of Luxembourg. He has been the heir since October 2000.
Since October 2024, Prince Guillaume has also been the regent of Luxembourg. This means he is temporarily in charge of the country. He is expected to become the Grand Duke on 3 October 2025, when his father steps down.

Early Life and Education
Prince Guillaume was born in Luxembourg City on 11 November 1981. He is the first child of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. He has four younger brothers and sisters: Prince Félix, Prince Louis, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Sébastien.
Guillaume went to school in Luxembourg and Switzerland. He finished high school in 2001. After that, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England. He also studied at universities in the United Kingdom and Switzerland. In 2009, he earned a bachelor's degree in letters and political science. From 2018 to 2019, he continued his studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
Before his higher education, Prince Guillaume completed internships at different companies. He worked at a chemical company, a bank, and a steel company. In 2002, he became an officer in the Luxembourg Army. He currently holds the rank of colonel.
Becoming Hereditary Grand Duke
Guillaume became the heir to the crown of Luxembourg in 2000. This happened when his father became the Grand Duke. When Guillaume becomes Grand Duke, he will be known as Guillaume V.
In 2001, Prince Guillaume became the honorary chairman of Luxembourg's Board of Economic Development. This group helps promote and grow the country's economy. He has also been a member of the Council of State since 2005. This council advises the government.
Prince Guillaume supports many different groups. He is a patron of the Luxembourg Cycling Sport Federation and Youth Hostels Central. He also supports the National Association of Road Victims and the Chamber Orchestra of Luxembourg. He is involved with Young Entrepreneurs Luxembourg and Special Olympics Luxembourg.
Guillaume has also done a lot of humanitarian work. In 1997, he helped with a reforestation project in Nepal. In 1999, he worked on a charity mission in Mexico. He helped young people in areas that needed support. For over 10 years, he led the Kräizbierg Foundation, which helps people with disabilities. He is now its honorary president.
In October 2024, Grand Duke Henri announced that Prince Guillaume would become the lieutenant representative. This means Guillaume started taking on some of his father's duties. These duties include swearing in ambassadors and signing official documents. This is usually the first step before a Grand Duke steps down. On Christmas Eve 2024, Grand Duke Henri announced he would step down on 3 October 2025.
Marriage and Family Life
On 26 April 2012, it was announced that Prince Guillaume would marry Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy from Belgium. Their civil wedding took place on 19 October 2012. The religious wedding was held the next day at the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Guillaume and Stéphanie have two sons. Their first son, Prince Charles, was born on 10 May 2020. Their second son, Prince François, was born on 27 March 2023. Charles and François are second and third in line to the throne, after their father.
Hobbies and Skills
Prince Guillaume enjoys music and sports. He plays the piano and likes football, swimming, and volleyball. He can speak several languages, including Luxembourgish, French, German, Spanish, and English. He often represents his parents at events in other countries.
