About the Church Building
St. Anne's Church is in the middle of Calais. It sits at the corner of Church Street and Washington Street. The church is made of wood and has one main floor. It has a pointed roof, which is called a gable roof. The outside walls are covered with a special type of siding called board-and-batten. This means long, flat boards are placed side by side, with thin strips (battens) covering the gaps. The church sits on a strong foundation made of granite.
Towers and Windows
The front of the church faces Church Street. On the right side, there is a tall tower with four sections. On the left, there is a smaller tower with two sections and an open bell area. The main entrance to the church is in the bottom part of the tall tower. Above the entrance, there is a narrow, pointed window. Higher up, there is a bell tower with louvered openings, which let sound out. The very top section of this tower has a large clock. It is finished with a decorative railing and small pointed tops called pinnacles.
The main part of the church's front has a stepped design. In the center, there is a beautiful stained-glass window. This window has four parts and fancy stone or wood patterns around it.
