Kids Encyclopedia Facts

St. John is a small, quiet place in Putnam County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and people living together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.

A Look Back: St. John's History

St. John was first planned out in 1846. This means people decided where the community would be located and how it would be organized. It was set up in a part of Putnam County called Sherman Township.

A post office, which is a place where letters and packages are sent and received, opened in St. John in 1849. This was an important service for the people living there. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1908. In that same year, two other nearby post offices, one in Delpha and another in West Liberty, Missouri, also closed down.
