How St. Johns Got Its Name
For a long time, this area was listed as part of Jacksonville by the United States Postal Service. This was confusing because St. Johns is actually in a different county.
In 2005, local leaders decided to give the community its own name. They wanted to make it clear that St. Johns was separate from Jacksonville. They held a poll to choose a new name.
Choosing a New Identity
The name "St. Johns" was chosen from five options. The other choices were River Cove, St. Johns Cove, River Oaks, and Bartram. Some people, especially those in older areas like Fruit Cove, did not want a new name. However, the effort to get a unique name for the area was successful. This led to "St. Johns" being officially recognized by the Postal Service.
