History of St Andrew's Church
This church has been around for a very long time. It was first built in the middle of the 11th century, which is over 900 years ago! More parts were added in the 12th and 13th centuries.
The West Tower
The tall tower at the west end of the church was built in the 15th century. It was made in a style called "late Perpendicular Gothic." This style is known for its tall, straight lines and big windows.
The tower has pointy tops called pinnacles. It also has a decorative wall at the top called an embattled parapet. You can see thirteen shields on the tower. These shields belong to the Montgomery family and their friends. There are also other cool carved designs.
Church Structure and Restoration
The church has a western tower, a main area called the nave, and a smaller section on the south side called an aisle. It also has a chancel (the area near the altar) and a south porch.
The church was repaired and updated between 1872 and 1874. An architect named James Piers St Aubyn led this work.
