St. Andrew's Church in West Bromwich, England is a special place. It brings together two different Christian groups: the Church of England and the Methodist Church. They work and worship together in what's called a "local ecumenical partnership." This means people from both traditions share the church and help each other. You can find the church at the corner of Dudley Street and Carter's Green. The postcode for the church is B70 9LR.

A Look Back in Time

In 1869, a day school opened in Old Meeting Street, West Bromwich. Soon, people started using these buildings for Sunday church services too. The area around St. Andrew's became its own church district, or parish, in 1879. This was part of the Diocese of Lichfield. Church services continued at the Old Meeting Street location until the 1920s.

Building the New Church

Work on a brand new church building started in 1915 at Carter's Green. However, the First World War slowed things down a lot. The official foundation stone for the new church was not laid until 1922. The first part of the building was finished in 1924. It was then officially opened for worship the next year.

Just before the Second World War, more parts of the church were added. These included two bays and a baptistry (a place for baptisms). These new sections were officially opened on January 21, 1940.

Modern Updates

In 1982, the church added new areas for social gatherings and a kitchen. A coffee lounge was also created next to the kitchen in 1998. More recently, in 2015, the church added 74 solar panels to its roof. This project was done with a group called Power for Good Co-operative Ltd.

The Church's Parish

The full name of the church's area is "The Parish of St. Andrew's-with-Christ Church, West Bromwich." Christ Church was once a large building on High Street, but it is no longer there. In 1988, the Christ Church area was divided among a few local churches. St. Andrew's received part of this area. This is why St. Andrew's has the longer official name today.

Working Together: The Ecumenical Partnership

For many years, Swan Village Methodist Church and St. Andrew's had joint services. When the Methodist church building became difficult to keep up, its members decided to join the Anglican church at St. Andrew's. This partnership became official in 1988 with a "Sharing Agreement." Money from both churches helped build an extension, which included an upstairs meeting room called the Cygnet Room.

In 2002, the two groups signed a "Declaration of Intent for Ecumenical Partnership." This made them a fully joined "Partnership Congregation."

St. Andrew's also hosts another church group called Forward in Faith Ministries. This group has its roots and traditions from Zimbabwe. It is not connected to any other Anglican organization with a similar name.

Church Leaders

The main leaders at St. Andrew's Church are currently the Revd. Nigel Ely, who is the Vicar, and the Revd. Phil Thomas, who is the Methodist Minister.
