St Bartholomew's Church in Allen's Cross was once a special church in Birmingham, England. It was part of the Church of England, a Christian church.

History of St Bartholomew's Church

Building the Church

Building the church started on April 21, 1937. A local leader named Councillor R. Canning helped lay the first stone. This new church was named after an older St Bartholomew's Church in Birmingham. That old church had to close in 1937 because it was falling apart.

Design and Opening

The church was designed by an architect named Samuel Nathaniel Cooke. He used a style called Romanesque, which looks a bit like old Roman buildings. The church was officially opened and blessed by the Bishop of Birmingham, Ernest Barnes, on May 7, 1938.

Sad End of the Church

Sadly, in 1998, the church was badly damaged by a fire that was set on purpose. Because of the damage, the building had to be taken down in 2006. Even though the building is gone, the church community still meets. They use other places for their services while they hope to build a new church in the future.

The Church Organ

A Special Organ

St Bartholomew's Church had a very old organ. It was built in 1888 by a person named Walter James Bird. This organ was first used in the old St Bartholomew's Church in Birmingham.

Moving the Organ

When the new church was built in 1938, the organ was moved and set up there. You could find details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register, which keeps records of organs.

Loss of the Organ

Unfortunately, the special organ was completely destroyed in the fire that happened in 1998.
