A Look Back at St Cuthbert's
This church was first built a long, long time ago, in the 1400s. Around the year 1430, a man named William de Bowes, who was an important leader in York, helped to fix it up and rebuild a lot of it.
Restorations and New Uses
In 1859, the church was restored again. This meant the stone walls were repaired, the floor was made even, and new seats (called pews) were put in.
Later, in 1980, St Cuthbert's Church joined with another church called St Michael le Belfrey. The building of St Cuthbert's was then changed to be used as offices for that parish. Today, it has a new purpose and is known as The Well Prayer House.
Remembering People: Memorials
Inside the church, there are special plaques or stones that remember people who were important to the church or the area. These are called memorials.

The Church Organ
The church once had a large musical instrument called a pipe organ. It was built in the 1800s by a local organ builder from York named William Denman. He also built the organ for St Michael-le-Belfrey church.
Where the Organ Went
The pipe organ from St Cuthbert's Church has since been moved. It found a new home in the Church of the Holy Spirit, which is located in Ewloe, Flintshire.
