Discovering St Edmund's Church History
St Edmund's Church has been connected to Holme Pierrepont Hall for a very long time. The hall is a historic house nearby.
The church you see today was mostly rebuilt in 1666. This work was done by a person named Henry Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester. Later, in 1878, Thomas Chambers Hine added a part called the chancel. The chancel is the area around the altar.
Today, St Edmund's Church is part of a bigger group of churches. It is combined with All Hallows Church in Lady Bay.
Special Features Inside the Church
The church has some beautiful features. The large window at the east end of the church was made in 1913. It was created by a famous company called James Powell and Sons.
There is also a special organ in the church. It was built by Charles Lloyd. This organ was so good that it won a gold medal in 1865 at an exhibition in Birmingham.
