St John's Church (also known as the Church of St John the Baptist) is a special church in the village of Peasedown St John in North East Somerset, England. It's part of the Church of England, which is a Christian church. The church community, called a parish, started in 1874. The building you see today was finished in 1893.
Many people from Peasedown St John and nearby areas come to this church. St John's Church is now part of a bigger group of churches called the 'St J’s' Group. This group also includes churches in Wellow, Foxcote, and Shoscombe.
Church Services and Activities
St John's Church has services every Sunday. These services focus on learning from the Bible and the work of the Holy Spirit.
- 10:30 AM Morning Praise: This service happens every Sunday. On the first and third Sundays of the month, it includes Holy Communion, a special Christian ceremony. Music is played on an organ and keyboard.
- 4:30 PM Soulfood Service: This service is also held at St John's Church. It includes a special "Children's Church" for younger kids. After the service, everyone can enjoy some refreshments.
Church History
The church building was updated and made new during the winter of 1989-1990. While this was happening, services were held in the church hall next door.
In 1993, the church celebrated its 100th birthday! Important church leaders, like the Bishop of Bath and Wells (who was Jim Thompson at the time), visited for the celebration. There was also a special evening service where the Archdeacon of Bath gave a sermon.
