A Look Back: The History of St Margaret's Church
How the Church Began
The first church building was put up in 1517. It was built as a "chapel of ease" for the main church, SS Peter and Paul's Church, Aston. A chapel of ease was a smaller church built to help people who lived far from the main parish church. This way, they didn't have to travel as far for services. John Bond paid for this first church.
Restoration and New Beginnings
After a long time, the old church might have fallen into disrepair. In 1833, people started asking for money to fix it. A brand new church building was then constructed and opened in 1834. It was officially made a church on October 23, 1841. The Bishop of Worcester led the special ceremony.
Changes to the Parish Area
Over the years, the church's parish area changed. In 1870, a new parish was created from land that used to belong to SS Peter and Paul's Church, Aston. Later, in 1928, some land from St Margaret's parish was used to form St Paul's Church, Bordesley Green. In 1929, more land was used for St Mary and St John's Church, Shaw Hill.
Recent Times and New Purpose
St Margaret's Church closed its doors in 2005. Its parish then joined with Christ Church, Ward End. In 2010, a group called the St Margaret's Community Trust started a project. They worked to restore the old church building.

Memorials and Tributes

The Church Organ
An organ was put into the church in 1845. It was made by a company called J C Bishop. You can find details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register. This register keeps records of many church organs.
