Myddelton Square: A Special Place
Myddelton Square is a large, open area surrounded by homes. It was designed by a person named William Chadwell Mylne. The square has 75 houses, built by 13 different builders. These homes were constructed between 1822 and 1843. They all share a similar style called Georgian architecture.
Building St Mark's Church
St Mark's Church was built between 1825 and 1827. William Chadwell Mylne, who designed Myddelton Square, also designed the church. It was built in a simple Gothic style. This style looks like old medieval churches. The church was made large enough to hold about 2000 people. Building it cost around £18,000 at that time.
Inside the Church
One special feature inside the church is its east window. This window shows a picture of the Ascension. It was designed by AE Buss of Goddard & Gibbs in 1962.
Sharing the Space
Since 2002, the church has shared its converted Church Hall and Chapel rooms. These spaces are used by the World Community for Christian Meditation. This group uses the rooms for their activities.
A Protected Building
