A Look Back: Church History
Before St. Mark's Church was built, people in this area went to St Pancras Church, Ipswich. That church served as their local parish.
For a while, the church was looked after by a group of religious people called the Franciscans. They came from East Bergholt Abbey. They also helped out at a church in a nearby village called Brantham.
Around 1973, many of the Franciscans moved to Canterbury. A few of them stayed in Ipswich and set up a small place to live and work. The Franciscans stopped serving the church in 1994.
St. Mark's School
There is also a Roman Catholic primary school connected to the church. It is also named St. Mark's. This school opened in 1967.
In 2018, St. Mark's School did very well in a competition. They won the Suffolk Junior Schools Mock Trial Competition. This competition helps students learn about the law.
Helping Other Churches
St. Mark's Church also helps out another Catholic church. This is the Church of the Holy Family. It is located in the village of Brantham. St. Mark's provides support and services to this church.
