St Mary's Church, Bishopstoke facts for kids
St Mary's Church is a special church in Bishopstoke, Hampshire, England. It belongs to the Anglican Church, which is the main church in England.
A talented architect named Edward Prioleau Warren designed the church. It was built between 1890 and 1891 by a company called Wheeler Bros. from Reading, Berkshire. Building the church cost about £4,200 back then, which was a lot of money!
The church was officially opened and blessed on November 12, 1891, by the Bishop of Guildford. The original plan for the church included a tall tower, but they didn't have enough money to build it right away. So, the tower, which was designed in a style called Perpendicular Gothic, was added later and finished in 1909.
This church replaced an even older St Mary's Church. The first church was located in a different spot, closer to the River Itchen. That older building had been rebuilt in 1825, but by 1908, it was completely taken down.
