St Michael the Archangel Church, often called St Michael's Church, is a special old church in Winterbourne, South Gloucestershire. This area is just north of Bristol, England. It's an Anglican church, which means it belongs to the Church of England.
This church was first built a very long time ago, in the 1100s (the 12th century)! It's so important that English Heritage has given it a "Grade I listed building" status. This means it's a building of exceptional historical or architectural interest.
Over the years, parts of the church were rebuilt or changed. This happened between 1843 and 1847, and again from 1877 to 1880. In 1851, the church could hold about 320 people for its services.

Where is St Michael's Church?
St Michael's Church is located to the west of Winterbourne village. It is mostly surrounded by green fields and peaceful woodlands. Even though it's a bit hidden away, its tall, pointed spire can be seen from many miles around.
Right behind the church's newest graveyard, you'll find the Monks Pool nature reserve. A small stream called the Bradley Brook also flows nearby. Next to the church stands Winterbourne Court, a very old barn built in the 1300s.
What is the Churchyard Like?
The churchyard is the area around the church where people are buried. In the north-west corner of St Michael's churchyard, there is a special grave. It belongs to a soldier from the Devonshire Regiment who died during World War II. This grave is looked after by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
What is the Fromeside Partnership?
St Michael's Church is part of something called the Fromeside Partnership. This is a group that connects several local churches in the area. These churches work together and support each other. The partnership includes the churches from Coalpit Heath, Frampton Cotterell, Winterbourne, and Winterbourne Down.
