St Paul's Tower and St Paul's View are two modern buildings in the city centre of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. They are also sometimes called the City Lofts Tower or the Conran Tower. These buildings were finished in April 2011 and offer apartments for people to live in.
The project includes two main parts. One is the St Paul's Tower, which has 32 floors and is mostly covered in glass. The other is a smaller building called St Paul's View, with 9 floors. It uses glass, sandstone, and bronze on its outside. The two buildings are connected at the bottom by a floor with shops and a roof terrace on top of the retail area.
Location and Surroundings
These buildings are located near two new public spaces: Millennium Square and St Paul's Place. This area is becoming a lively spot with many restaurants and bars.
The towers and the squares are part of a bigger plan called the St Paul's Place development. This plan also includes three office buildings, a large car park, and a casino. The whole area faces Hallam Square and is less than 100 metres (330 ft) from Sheffield railway station.
This development is an important part of a larger project to improve the area around Sheffield Town Hall. This bigger project is known as the Heart of the City Project.
Sheffield's Tallest Building
When St Paul's Tower was finished in August 2010, it became the tallest building in Sheffield. It stands at 101 metres (331 ft) tall. This made it 23 metres (75 ft) taller than the Arts Tower, which was the tallest before.
However, it's interesting to know that the base of the Arts Tower is about 45 metres (148 ft) higher above sea level than the base of St Paul's Tower. This means that even though St Paul's Tower is taller from the ground up, the very top of the Arts Tower is still about 22 metres (72 ft) higher when measured from sea level.
The St Paul's Tower and its smaller neighbour, St Paul's View, offer private apartments for people who want to live in the city centre. The ground floor of the tower has shops facing Arundel Gate. St Paul's View has restaurants on its upper-ground floor, facing St Paul's Place.
