St Peter's Church, Harrogate is a parish church in the Church of England. It is located in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. This church is a Grade II listed building, which means it is an important historical building.

The Story of St Peter's Church

St Peter's Church was created from the parish of Christ Church, High Harrogate. A parish is like a local area that a church serves.

Work on building the church started in April 1870. The first stone was laid then. The church was designed by Mr. Hirst from Bristol. It has a style called "decorated architecture." This means it has lots of fancy details.

The church has a long main hall called a nave. It also has side sections called aisles. At the end, there is a special area called the chancel. This part is shaped like a half-circle. There is also a tall tower with a spire at one end.

The chancel and a temporary nave were officially opened on Sunday, September 10, 1871. This ceremony was led by Reverend Bishop Ryan. The first vicar, Reverend L. F. W. Foote, started in 1870.

The Church Bells

St Peter's Church has a set of eight bells in its tower. These bells were made by John Taylor in Loughborough. The bells became famous for an unusual reason. They were the first church bells in the United Kingdom to have a special order placed against them because of noise. This order was made to stop them from ringing too loudly.
