A Look at Its Long History

The Church of St Teilo first started being built way back in the 1200s. That's over 800 years ago! Over the centuries, new parts were added.

Building Through the Ages

  • 1200s: The main parts of the church were first built.
  • Early 1300s: The tall bell tower was added.
  • Later 1300s: The aisle (a walkway along the side of the church) was built.
  • 1500s: More big changes and additions were made.
  • 1600s: Six bells were put into the bell tower. These bells are still there today!
  • 1890: The church had a major repair and update. This is called a restoration.
  • 1900s: Smaller repairs and updates happened.

Special Parts of the Church

Around the main altar area, called the chancel, you can find three special rooms. These are known as chantry chapels. They are some of the most interesting parts of the church. In the past, these chapels were often used for special prayers.
