Staats House (Stockport, New York) facts for kids
The Staats House is a very old and important building. It stands along the Hudson River near Stockport, in Columbia County, New York. The first house built here was sadly destroyed by fire around c. 1664, but it was quickly rebuilt.
This special house was built by a person named Abraham Staats. He started building it between 1652 and 1665. The house has very strong stone walls that are three feet thick! That's about as thick as a grown-up's arm is long.
