Stafford Lake County Park facts for kids
Stafford Lake County Park is a fun place to visit in Marin County, California. It is managed by the Marin County Department of Parks and Open Space. This park covers about 139 acres (or 0.56 square kilometers). You can find it in Novato, which is about 33 miles (or 53 kilometers) north of San Francisco, California. The park sits in a beautiful valley with farms nearby.
The lake at Stafford Lake County Park was made by people. You cannot go boating or swimming in it. The park has many different areas. There are fields by the lake, a creek, open meadows, and even some redwood trees. The park is named after the Stafford Farm, which used to be here. Many cool events happen at the park. These include concerts like "Rock'n Blues by the Lake." Famous bands like Journey and Jefferson Starship have played here. For several years, the park also hosted the Marin Renaissance fair.
Bike Park Adventures
In 2017, a special bike park was added to Stafford Lake. This park has bike courses for everyone. It does not matter if you are just starting or are a very skilled rider. You can also enjoy great views of the lake while you ride. The bike park is still growing, with more exciting parts being added.
Disc Golf Challenges
Stafford Lake also has a challenging disc golf course. Disc golf is a sport like regular golf, but you throw a disc (like a frisbee) into a basket. This course was first set up in 1993. Baskets were added in 1997. In 2007, new concrete starting spots were put in.
This course is known for being long and very hilly. It is a tough course for players. Walking the whole course is about a 4-mile (6.4-kilometer) walk. It can be a good workout because of all the hills. The course has 18 holes. Each hole has one or two starting spots. There are also two to five different places where the basket can be. In total, there are 60 possible basket locations!
The length of the course can change. If all the holes are set up short, it is about 5,224 feet (1,592 meters) long. If all the holes are set up long, it is about 7,743 feet (2,360 meters) long. The usual way to play the course is about 6,625 feet (2,019 meters) long.
