Stan Verrett is an American sportscaster. A sportscaster is someone who reports on sports news. He works for the ESPN and ESPNEWS TV channels. You can often see him on SportsCenter, a popular sports news show. He usually appears late at night, from Monday to Friday.
Stan Verrett also helps cover college basketball and college football games. He has even worked as a reporter on the sidelines during games, like at ArenaBowl XXII.
Stan Verrett's Early Life and Career
Stan Verrett went to St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. After high school, he studied at Howard University in Washington, D.C.. He is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. A fraternity is a social group for college men.
Before working in TV sports, Stan Verrett was a radio DJ. He worked at WOWI 103 Jamz in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. He also worked as a sports reporter for local TV stations. These included WVEC-TV 13 (an ABC channel) and WAVY-TV 10 (an NBC channel).
Stan Verrett Joins ESPN
In April 2009, Stan Verrett started working from ESPN's new studios. These studios are located in L.A. Live in Los Angeles. He began hosting the 10:00 p.m. SportsCenter show with Neil Everett.
In August 2016, he became the main host for ESPN's college football coverage on the ABC channel. He took over this role after John Saunders passed away.
Stan Verrett is also related to another sports figure. He is the cousin of Jason Verrett, who is a professional football player.
