Stanley Gower facts for kids

Stanley Gower (born around 1600, died 1660) was an important puritan minister in the Church of England. He is especially known for being one of the Westminster Divines, a group of religious leaders who met to discuss and reshape the Church of England.

Stanley Gower's Early Life and Education

Stanley Gower started his journey in 1613 when he became a student of Richard Rothwell. Rothwell was a well-known Puritan minister who helped prepare young Gower for university studies.

In 1621, Stanley Gower began attending Trinity College Dublin. He was recognized for his academic skills and was chosen as a Scholar that same year. He worked hard and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1625.

A Career as a Minister

After finishing his studies, Stanley Gower began his work as a minister. In 1630, he was appointed as the curate of Attercliffe. He served the community there for five years, until 1635.

Joining the Westminster Assembly

After spending some time in Hertfordshire, Gower moved to London in 1643. This was a very important time in English history, as the country was going through a civil war. In London, Gower joined the Westminster Assembly. This was a special meeting of religious leaders and politicians.

The Westminster Assembly met from 1643 to 1649. Its main goal was to discuss and reform the Church of England. Stanley Gower played a part in these important discussions and decisions.

Stanley Gower had a son named Humphrey Gower. Humphrey was born in 1638.
