The Star Plaza Theatre was a popular place for live music and shows. It was located in Merrillville, Indiana. Before 1990, it was known as the Holiday Star Theatre. This theatre was a special spot where many people enjoyed concerts and performances for years.
About the Star Plaza Theatre
The Star Plaza Theatre was designed to give everyone a great view. It had 3,400 seats arranged in a semicircle around the stage. This design made every show feel close and personal.
A Special Place for Shows
The theatre had two main seating areas. The Main Floor Level was closest to the stage. It could hold 2,000 people. Above that was the Mezzanine Level. This section hung over the main floor. It had seats for 1,400 more guests. Even the very last seat in the theatre was only 120 feet from the stage. This meant everyone felt connected to the performers.
The Final Curtain Call
The Star Plaza Theatre closed its doors on December 17, 2017. Its very last show was a memorable one. The Oak Ridge Boys, a famous music group, performed that night. They were the only group to play at the theatre every single year it was open. The final song ever sung on its stage was "Amazing Grace". After the closing, the theatre was taken down. Its demolition happened throughout the summer of 2018.
