A Busy Street in Bethlehem
Star Street is one of Bethlehem's oldest shopping streets. It links the northern part of the Old City to the southern part. Many of the buildings you see there were built in the 19th century. This means they are over 100 years old!
Shops and Tourism
Before 2001, Star Street was very busy. There were 98 shops open along the street. However, tourism in Bethlehem dropped a lot after 2001. This caused many shops to close. Nearly half of them shut down.
By 2008, things started to get better. The number of shops increased to 63. This showed that the street was becoming lively again.
The Thursday Market
To help businesses even more, a special "Thursday Market" was started in June 2008. This market is a day-long event. It celebrates business, shopping, and the community. It helps bring more people to Star Street.
