Stash Tea Company is a well-known company that sells special teas and herbal teas. It used to have its main office in Tigard, Oregon, near Portland. In the summer of 2022, Stash Tea moved out of its old office. They planned to open a new office and store in downtown Portland by the end of 2022. The History of Stash Tea
Stash Tea was started in 1972 by three friends: Steve Lee, Dave Leger, and Steven Smith. Steven Smith also helped start another tea company called Tazo.
The company first began in an old house in Portland, Oregon. They sold loose herbal teas and bulk herbs to natural food stores. Over time, Stash Tea started making bagged teas. They also created many different kinds of traditional and special herbal teas for nice restaurants.
The company says its name, "Stash Tea," comes from old tea stories. Long ago, tea was very valuable. It was often carried on fast sailing ships called clippers. The ship's captain would get the very best teas for himself. This special collection was called his "stash."
In 1993, a company called Yamamotoyama Tea Company bought Stash Tea.

Stash Tea's Retail Store
In 2005, Stash Tea opened a store where people could buy their products. This store was located in a shopping area called Bridgeport Village in Tigard, Oregon.
The store closed in the summer of 2022. Stash Tea announced they would move their store to downtown Portland, Oregon. However, as of August 2025, a new store location has not opened. No new information has been shared about their plans.
