About the Stanville Lincoln Statue

Why Was This Statue Built?

The idea for the statue started in October 2009. It was officially shown to the public on November 4, 2010. This date is special because it's the anniversary of the only person from Kentucky ever elected president. The main reason for building the statue was to remind people in Kentucky that Abraham Lincoln was born there. He also spent many important years of his childhood in the state. Eric C. Conn paid for the entire statue himself. It was reported to cost $500,000.

Where Is the Statue Located?

The statue is in a small, country town called Stanville. This town is in rural Kentucky. In the year 2000, about 415 people lived in Stanville. The statue is a big landmark in this small community.

How Big Is the Statue?

The statue and its base together are almost 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall. Eric C. Conn believes that if you include the concrete base, it is the second largest seated Lincoln statue in the world. The biggest one is the Abraham Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.. The Stanville statue is white, and its base is also white.

The statue was so big that a crane was needed to put it in place. It had to be brought in three separate pieces because of its huge size. The statue itself weighs more than a ton. This weight does not even include its cement base, which is 16 feet (4.9 meters) square and six feet (1.8 meters) high.
