Steinbjørn Berghamar Jacobsen (born September 30, 1937 – died April 12, 2012) was a famous writer from the Faroe Islands. He was a poet, a teacher, and wrote many different kinds of stories. He was especially well-known for his books for children. He also wrote short stories, plays, and novels. In 1981, he won the important Faroese Literature Prize for his fiction.

Steinbjørn B. Jacobsen was born in a village called Sandvík on September 30, 1937. He passed away in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands, on April 12, 2012. He was 74 years old when he died.

A Musical Tribute

After Steinbjørn's death, two of his children honored him in a special way. They turned eleven of his poems into songs. His son, Kári Jacobsen, created the music for these poems. His daughter, Eyð B. Jacobsen, sang the songs. They recorded these songs and released them as an album. The album was called Tungl, Steinbjørn B. Jacobsen. Tungl was also the name of a poetry book Steinbjørn had published in 1987.

  • Krákuungarnir (The Crow Chicks), 1972.
  • Lív og hundurin (Lív and the Dog), 1974.
  • Gráisteinur (Gray Stone), 1975.
  • Hin reyða ryssan (The Red Mare), 1979. This story about a red horse was also published in Norwegian.
  • Maria og rossið (Maria and the Horse), 1980. This book had a similar theme to "The Red Mare."
  • Lív og dýrini (Lív and the Animals), 1981.
  • Mia og Eyð, 1981.
  • Reyða (Red), 1983. This was the final book in the series about the horse, Reyða Ryssa. It was also translated into Norwegian.
  • Sí og Sú, 1985.
  • Uni og Una, 1987.
  • Sí og Sú síggja (Sí and Sú See), 1987.
  • Vár og mánin (Spring and the Moon), 1989. This book was printed with translations in Norwegian and Swedish.
  • Lítli Páll í Nólsoy (Little Páll in Nólsoy), 1992.
  • Tvey systkin (Two Siblings), 1993.
  • Eftir nátungum (After the Young Seals), 1993.
  • Jólabørn (Christmas Children), 1999. This book contained 24 short stories for children. It was part of the Faroese Radio's Christmas Calendar.
