Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Stella was once a small community in Harris County, Texas. It was located about 10 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Stella existed from the late 1800s through the 1920s. After that, it slowly disappeared from maps of the area. In the 1950s, the land where Stella once stood became part of the City of Houston.

Stella's History and Location

Stella was an unincorporated area, which means it wasn't officially a town or city with its own government. It was just a community of people living in a certain spot. Over the years, many railroad lines passed through, crossed, and connected in the Stella area.

Railroad Connections

Railroads were very important for travel and trade back then. A railroad timetable from that time shows Stella as a stop where people could get on or off trains. They could also connect to other trains going to different places. This shows that Stella was a recognized point on the railway system.

Where Was Stella?

Even today, you can find a small reminder of Stella. An identifier sign that says "Stella" is still attached to a signal bungalow. This is a small building next to the railroad tracks. It is located along Holmes Road, about a quarter-mile west of Kirby Drive. This spot marks where the old community of Stella used to be.

Stella Link Road

The name of the modern-day Stella Link Road in Houston comes from this historic community. This road started as a country path. It ran next to the railroad tracks and connected the area of West University to Stella.

A Busy Modern Road

Today, Stella Link Road is a very busy street in the city. It still follows much of its original path. The road continues to link West University to the area that was once known as Stella. It serves as a lasting reminder of the community that disappeared from the maps many years ago.
