About the Church
The Stella Maris Church follows the Roman or Latin rite, which is a common way of worship in the Catholic Church. It is part of the Catholic Church's organization in the Cayman Islands.
Building and Opening
The church building cost about $800,000 U.S. dollars to build. It is special because it was the very first Catholic church ever built on the island of Cayman Brac.
The church was officially opened and blessed for religious services on February 5, 2011. Archbishop Allen Vigneron was there for the opening. He is the Archbishop of Detroit in the United States and also oversees the Catholic Church in the Cayman Islands. The Stella Maris Church is connected to the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Other Churches
The St. Ignatius Church, George Town is considered the "parent" church to Stella Maris. It is the only other Roman Catholic church in the Cayman Islands.
