Stellinha Egg (born Stella Maria Egg) was a famous Brazilian singer and composer. She was born on July 18, 1914, and passed away on June 17, 1991. Stellinha was married to a music director named Lindolfo Gaya. She also worked with many other great musicians like Luiz Gonzaga and Dorival Caymmi.

Her Musical Journey

Stellinha Egg was born in Curitiba, Brazil, on July 18, 1914. Her parents were Carlos Egg and Estela Campos Egg. Stellinha, a sweet nickname for Stella, grew up to be one of Brazil's most famous singer-composers.

Her love for music started at home. She sang with her brothers and sisters during family get-togethers. Her father played the flute, and her mother played the mandolin. When Stellinha was just five years old, she began singing at the Presbyterian Church.

Starting Her Career

Stellinha's professional journey began at Rádio Clube Paranaense. She won a singing contest there. Because of her win, she was hired by Rádio Tupi in São Paulo.

During the 1940s and 1950s, she sang at Rádio Tupi in Rio de Janeiro. In 1945, she married Lindolfo Gaya. He was a talented music director and pianist. Lindolfo then became responsible for creating the music for her songs. He even wrote one of her songs called "Um amor para amar".

In the 1950s, Stellinha was voted the best performer in Brazilian folk music three times!

Touring and Famous Songs

After receiving a special award called the Golden Record, Stellinha went on a tour in Europe. She performed successfully in many countries. These included Portugal, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, France, and Italy.

She worked with many big names in Brazilian Popular Music. Some of these were Luiz Gonzaga, Dorival Caymmi, and Silvio Caldas. Stellinha also wrote many popular songs herself. Some of her main compositions include "A moda da carranquinha", "Boi barroso", and "Fandango".

Later Years

After her husband, Lindolfo Gaya, passed away in the 1980s, Stellinha returned to Curitiba. She stopped performing concerts. She passed away in Curitiba on June 17, 1991, at 77 years old.
