Stelvio Cipriani (born August 20, 1937 – died October 1, 2018) was a talented Italian composer. He was also known as Viostel. He mostly wrote music for movies, which are called soundtracks.

About Stelvio Cipriani

Stelvio Cipriani didn't grow up in a very musical family. But when he was a child, he loved the organ in his church. The priest noticed his interest and gave him his first music lessons. The priest also encouraged Stelvio and his family to support his musical journey.

When he was 14, Stelvio started studying at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, a famous music school in Italy. Around this time, he played piano in bands on cruise ships. This was a cool way to travel and meet other musicians. He even met the famous jazz musician Dave Brubeck! When he came back to Italy, he started playing piano for the singer Rita Pavone.

Stelvio's Movie Music Career

Stelvio Cipriani wrote his first movie music for a film called The Bounty Killer in 1966. This was a type of movie known as a Spaghetti Western. These were Western films made by Italian directors.

After that, he wrote music for The Stranger Returns (1967), another popular Western movie. Stelvio kept composing for many other Spaghetti Westerns. He also started writing music for "poliziottesco" films. These were Italian crime and police movies.

Stelvio became very busy in the Italian movie world. He even won an award called the Nastro d'Argento for Best Score for his music in the film The Anonymous Venetian (1970).

One of his most famous pieces of music came out in 1973. It was the soundtrack for La polizia sta a guardare (which means The Great Kidnapping). The main song from this movie was used again by Stelvio in 1977 for the film Tentacoli. This song became popular again in 2007 when it was featured in Quentin Tarantino's movie Death Proof. Parts of the music from La polizia sta a guardare were also used in the movie Amer. Stelvio was also well-known for his music in the 1979 film The Concorde Affair.

In a 2007 interview, Stelvio Cipriani shared that he had composed music for Pope John Paul II. He was also working on music with Pope Pope Benedict XVI.

In 2014, he released his song "Anonimo Veneziano" ("To Be the One You Love"). It featured the voice of international singer Veronica Vitale. In 2017, he appeared in a documentary series called "Diario Di Bordo, Inside the Outsider," which was also promoted by Veronica Vitale.
