The Stenocereus queretaroensis is a special type of cactus that comes from Mexico. You can find it growing in places like the state of Querétaro. This cactus is very popular because it grows a delicious fruit that people enjoy eating!
About the Queretaro Cactus
This cactus can grow very tall, reaching about 5 to 6 meters (that's like 16 to 20 feet) high! It has a main trunk, and then lots of branches grow upwards from it. This makes the cactus look a bit like a big candelabra, which is a fancy holder for candles.
What it Looks Like
The stems of the Stenocereus queretaroensis are quite thick, about 15 centimeters (or 6 inches) across. They have six to eight clear ridges, which are like raised lines running along them.
Small, cushion-like spots called areoles grow on these ridges. From these areoles, you'll see five to nine whitish spines sticking out, which are about 2 centimeters (less than an inch) long. There are also one to four grayer spines in the center, with the bottom ones being longer, up to 4 centimeters (about 1.5 inches).
Its Beautiful Flowers
This cactus also produces pretty white flowers. They grow from the sides near the ends of the stems. These flowers are quite big, about 10 to 12 centimeters (4 to 5 inches) long, and they have a nice smell!
