The Kitchen Garden Foundation: Learning About Food
In 2001, Stephanie Alexander started a special program. It was called the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. She began it at Collingwood College in Melbourne. Stephanie believes that children learn best about food when they are young. They learn by seeing good examples and having fun experiences. These early lessons help them make healthy food choices for their whole lives.
What the Foundation Does
In February 2004, the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation was officially created. This group is a non-profit organization. This means it uses its money to help others, not to make a profit. The Foundation helps teachers and schools. It gives them ideas, information, and training. This support helps them teach children and young people about "pleasurable food education." This means learning to enjoy healthy food.
How Many Schools Are Involved?
As of June 2023, the Foundation works with over 1000 schools. It also works with early childhood centers across Australia. More and more places are joining the program every year. The Foundation works with schools, governments, and people who donate money. This helps make sure the program has enough funding to keep going.
