Stephanie Coleman's Early Life

Stephanie Coleman was born in 1988. Her mother, Shirley Coleman, was also an alderman for the Englewood area of Chicago from 1991 to 2007. Because of her family's connection to Englewood, Stephanie is sometimes called "Daughter of Englewood."

She went to Emannuel Christian School and Chicago Military Academy High School. Later, she studied business management at Robert Morris University. She also earned a master's degree in non-profit management from Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies.

Before becoming an alderman, Stephanie Coleman was involved in local politics. Since 2016, she has been a leader in the Cook County Young Democrats. She also worked as an assistant for Cook County Commissioner Dennis Deer.

Stephanie Coleman first ran for alderman in 2015. She lost that election by a small number of votes. However, she ran again in 2019 and won with 67% of the votes.
