Stephanie Hirst's Career
Early Radio Days
Stephanie Hirst started her radio journey at 96.3 Radio Aire in Leeds. She began by helping out, making tea for the DJs. At just 16 years old, she got her first chance to present an overnight show.
She then moved to Minster FM in York. After that, in 1995, she joined The Pulse of West Yorkshire in Bradford. There, she presented the evening show.
Moving Up in Radio
In 1997, Stephanie moved to Hallam FM in Sheffield. This was her local radio station. She hosted the drivetime show for three years.
Later, she went back to The Pulse of West Yorkshire. She co-hosted the breakfast show with Elisa Hilton. Soon after, she took over the breakfast show at Viking FM in Hull. This happened after the previous presenters, JK and Joel, left.
Stephanie then left Viking FM. She went on to present Hirsty's Daily Dose at Galaxy Yorkshire. This station covered all areas of Yorkshire.
National Radio Shows
In 2004, Stephanie Hirst became a host for Hit40UK. She had filled in for the main host, Neil Fox, since 2003. She first hosted with Katy Hill from the studios of Capital Radio in London. Later, she hosted the show by herself. Stephanie presented her last Hit40UK chart show on October 15, 2006.
In May 2013, Stephanie returned to national radio. She presented on Gold on Saturday afternoons. She created a show called 'Vinyl Heaven'. On this show, every song was played live from original vinyl records.
Recent Work
In June 2014, Stephanie left her presenting jobs at Capital and Gold. In April 2018, she started hosting The Stephanie Hirst Show. This show was broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds.
She later returned to commercial radio for Bauer's Hits Radio Pride. She hosted her first 'Belters' show on August 28, 2020. In August 2021, she joined the national Hits Radio network. She now hosts 'Stephanie Hirst's Belters' on Saturday nights. She also presents 'The Throwback' on Sunday evenings. You can also hear her sometimes on Greatest Hits Radio.
Stephanie is a Fellow and a former trustee of The Radio Academy. She also appears on Channel 5. She is an occasional panelist on the TV programme Jeremy Vine.
Stephanie Hirst's Activism
Stephanie Hirst is a strong supporter of equality and fairness. She has been recognized for her work in promoting understanding and acceptance.
In 2014 and 2015, Stephanie was included in The Independent On Sunday's "Rainbow List". This list celebrates 101 people in the UK who have made a difference in supporting diverse communities.
In July 2016, Leeds Beckett University gave Stephanie an Honorary Doctorate. This award recognized her efforts in activism.
Also in 2016, she was nominated for an award by the British LGBT Awards. This nomination was for the Top 10 Celebrity Rising Stars.
