Stephanie Hirst's Radio Journey
Stephanie Hirst started her exciting career in radio when she was just 16 years old. She began at 96.3 Radio Aire in Leeds, where she helped out behind the scenes. Soon after, she got her first chance to be on air, hosting the overnight show.
Early Radio Days
After her start in Leeds, Stephanie moved to Minster FM in York. Then, in 1995, she joined The Pulse of West Yorkshire in Bradford to host the evening show. In 1997, she moved to Hallam FM in Sheffield, which was her local radio station. She hosted the "drivetime" show there for three years, helping people enjoy their journey home.
Becoming a Breakfast Show Star
Stephanie later returned to The Pulse of West Yorkshire to co-host the popular morning "breakfast show." However, she quickly moved on to host the breakfast show at Viking FM in Hull. After that, she joined Galaxy Yorkshire, a big station covering all of Yorkshire, to present her very own show, Hirsty's Daily Dose.
Hosting National Shows
In 2004, Stephanie got a big opportunity to host Hit40UK, a national music chart show. She had filled in for the main host before, and now she got to host it herself, sometimes with Katy Hill. She presented her last Hit40UK chart show on October 15, 2006.
In May 2013, Stephanie returned to national radio on Gold. She created a special show called 'Vinyl Heaven'. On this show, every song was played directly from original vinyl records!
Current Radio Work
In June 2014, Stephanie left her roles at Capital and Gold. Later, in April 2018, she started hosting The Stephanie Hirst Show on BBC Radio Leeds.
She also returned to commercial radio for Hits Radio Pride. She began hosting her 'Belters' show on August 28, 2020. In August 2021, she joined the national Hits Radio network. You can now hear 'Stephanie Hirst's Belters' on Saturday nights and 'The Throwback' on Sunday evenings. She also sometimes appears on Greatest Hits Radio.
Stephanie is also involved with The Radio Academy, an organization that supports people working in radio. You might also see her on Channel 5 as a guest on the TV show Jeremy Vine.
Stephanie's Advocacy Work
Stephanie Hirst is also known for her work helping others. In July 2016, she received a special award called an Honorary Doctorate from Leeds Beckett University. This award recognized her efforts in advocating for fairness and acceptance for all people.
