Stephen Scott is an American jazz pianist, born on March 13, 1969. He started playing the piano when he was just five years old. While attending the High School of Performing Arts in New York, he discovered jazz music. His friend, alto saxophonist Justin Robinson, introduced him to the sounds of jazz legends like Wynton Kelly and Red Garland. Stephen also took private music lessons at the famous Juilliard School of Music.
Early Career and Awards
In 1986, Stephen Scott received a special honor called the Young Talent Award. This award came from the National Association of Jazz Educators. Soon after, he began working as an accompanist for the legendary jazz singer Betty Carter. This was a big step in his career.
Playing with Jazz Stars
Stephen Scott quickly became a sought-after pianist. He played with many famous jazz bands and musicians. Some of these incredible artists included Kenny Barron, Terence Blanchard, Ron Carter, and Lou Donaldson. He also performed with Benny Golson, Roy Hargrove, and Joe Henderson. Stephen played on Joe Henderson's album Lush Life, which won a Grammy Award. He also worked with Jon Hendricks, Bobby Hutcherson, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Sonny Rollins, and Bobby Watson.
