Stephen Stanley Sternberg (born July 30, 1920 – died May 12, 2021) was an American doctor. He was a special kind of doctor called a pathologist. Pathologists study diseases by looking at tissues and cells.
Dr. Sternberg worked at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for his whole career. He was famous for editing important medical books. He also started and led a major medical journal for many years.
About Stephen Sternberg's Life
Stephen Sternberg was born in Queens, New York. He went to Colby College in Maine and then to New York University School of Medicine. He became a medical doctor in 1947.
After medical school, he trained to become a pathologist. He worked at hospitals in New Orleans and New York City. In 1951, he joined the staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
He also became a professor at Cornell University. He taught about how medicines and chemicals affect the body. Dr. Sternberg lived to be 100 years old. He passed away in May 2021.
