Steve Harris and Iron Maiden
In 1975, Steve Harris decided to follow his dream. He left his job and created a new heavy metal band called Iron Maiden. He started the band with guitarist Dave Murray.
Their first album, named Iron Maiden, came out on April 14, 1980. The band at that time included Paul Di'Anno on vocals, Dennis Stratton on guitar, and Clive Burr on drums. Steve's bass playing on this album was very strong.
The band's second album, Killers, was released in 1981. It was even more successful. Guitarist Adrian Smith joined the band around this time.
In 1982, Bruce Dickinson became the new singer for Iron Maiden. He had a very powerful voice. With Bruce, the band released one of their most famous albums, The Number of the Beast.
Another change happened in 1983. Nicko McBrain became the new drummer for Iron Maiden.
In 1990, Adrian Smith left the band. Guitarist Janick Gers took his place. With Janick, Iron Maiden released another great album, Fear of the Dark, in 1992.
Later, in 1995, Bruce Dickinson left the band for a while. Blaze Bayley became the new singer. He sang on two albums. However, he left the band after a few years.
In 2000, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith both returned to Iron Maiden. Janick Gers also stayed in the band. This meant Iron Maiden now had three guitarists!
Steve Harris is known as one of the best bass players ever. He has helped write most of Iron Maiden's biggest songs. He is also the only member who has been in every single version of the band since it started.
