Steve Molitor, born on April 4, 1980, is a Canadian former professional boxer. He competed from 2000 to 2012. During his career, he was a champion twice. He held the IBF super-bantamweight title, which is a boxing weight class.

Steve Molitor's Boxing Journey

Steve Molitor was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. He started boxing when he was just nine years old. His older brother, Jeremy Molitor, who was also a boxer, inspired him. Steve was very good at boxing as a young person. He won five national titles in Canada. His amateur record was impressive, with 93 wins and only eleven losses.

Turning Professional

Steve became a professional boxer on May 18, 2000. His first professional fight was against Julio Luna, and Steve won. In 2002, he had a big win against Scotty Olson. This win earned him the Canadian super-bantamweight title. Later that year, he also won the Commonwealth bantamweight championship by beating Nicky Booth from England. In 2004, Steve won another title, the NABA North American title.

Becoming a World Champion

On November 10, 2006, Steve Molitor achieved a major goal. He won the vacant IBF super-bantamweight championship title. He won this fight by knocking out Michael Hunter in the fifth round.

After becoming champion, Steve had to defend his title. He successfully defended it several times.

  • On July 14, 2007, he defeated Takalani Ndlovu from South Africa.
  • On October 27, he beat Fahsan 3K Battery from Thailand.
  • On January 19, 2008, he won against Ricardo Castillo.
  • On April 5, 2008, he defended his title again, beating Fernando Beltran. This win made his record 27 wins and no losses!

Changes and Challenges

In 2008, Steve changed trainers. He started working with Stéphan Larouche. On August 29, he defended his title against Ceferino Labarda and won.

However, on November 21, 2008, Steve faced a tough challenge. He fought Celestino Caballero from Panama. Caballero was another champion, and they were fighting to unify their titles. Steve lost this fight in the fourth round.

Fighting Back

After this loss, Steve continued to box. On June 26, 2009, he won a fight against Heriberto Ruiz. He also reunited with his former trainer, Chris Johnson. With Johnson, Steve won against Feliciano Ledezma in September 2009. In November 2009, he beat Jose Saez.

Regaining the Title

On March 27, 2010, Steve Molitor had a chance to win back his IBF Junior Featherweight championship. He fought Takalani Ndlovu again and won by a unanimous decision after 12 rounds. This meant he was a world champion once more!

Final Fights

On March 26, 2011, Steve had his third fight against Takalani Ndlovu. This time, Steve lost his title.

His last professional fight was on September 22, 2012. He challenged Carl Frampton for a title in Belfast. Frampton won the fight in the sixth round.

Steve Molitor had a great boxing career. He won 34 of his 37 professional fights, with 12 wins by knockout. He was a two-time world champion.
