Steve Speirs, born Steven Roberts on February 22, 1965, is a well-known Welsh actor and writer. You might recognize him from big movies like Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. He has also appeared in many popular TV shows.

Steve Speirs' Early Life and Education
Steven Roberts was born in a village called Troed-y-rhiw in Wales. When he was growing up, he went to Afon Taf High School. This is where he first discovered how much he loved drama and acting.
After high school, he joined the National Youth Theatre of Wales. He then went on to study drama at Loughborough University. He decided to use "Speirs" as his stage name. He picked this name from one of his college teachers.
Steve Speirs' Acting and Writing Career
Since finishing university, Steve Speirs has played many different characters. He was Sloan in the movie Eragon. He also worked with famous comedian Ricky Gervais in the TV show Extras.
You might remember him as Captain Tarpals in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. He also had a small part in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
Steve Speirs played Loquasto in the comedy fantasy series Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. Loquasto was a clumsy servant who belonged to a race of pig-like creatures.
In 2008, he wrote his first movie, Caught in the Act. He also starred as the main character in it. The film was based on his own childhood memories of growing up in south Wales. It was filmed in the area where he grew up.
Steve Speirs also appeared in the 2010 film Cemetery Junction. This part was specially written for him by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. He also played a bouncer in the 2010 British comedy Burke and Hare.
He was in a CBBC show called Sadie J, where he played Sadie's dad, who was a mechanic. Other roles include Big Alan Williams in Stella. He also played a postman in the last episode of Miranda season 3.
From 2013 to 2014, Speirs played Mr. Gareth Barber in the BBC One sitcom Big School. Mr. Barber was a geography teacher and caretaker who was often sad.
In 2013, he was PC McClintock in the Christmas TV movie Gangsta Granny. This film was based on a book by David Walliams. The next year, he played Dad in The Boy in the Dress, another TV film by Walliams.
In 2015, he appeared in The Bad Education Movie. He played Don alongside the main cast of Bad Education. That same year, he was in the pilot for the radio sitcom Ankle Tag. This show later had three full series.
From 2016 to 2020, he appeared in the BBC One comedy series Upstart Crow. He played Richard Burbage, a famous actor and leader of William Shakespeare's acting group. He also performed this role on stage in London.
Steve Speirs also created, wrote, and starred in a show called The Tuckers for BBC Wales. In 1998, he appeared in the music video for the Super Furry Animals song Ice Hockey Hair.
Steve Speirs' Personal Life
Steve Speirs used to live in Brighton, England. Now, he lives in Cardiff, South Wales. He has two sons, Jack and Lewes, from his first marriage. He later remarried and has a son, Max, and a daughter, Amelie, with his second wife, Joanna. His brother, Jeffrey Lloyd Roberts, is an opera singer. He is also a cousin of the comedy actor Ben Miller.
