Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Steven Anthony Davis is an American business leader from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He used to be the head of Bob Evans Restaurants and also served as president of other well-known food chains like Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurants.

Early Life and Education

Steven Davis was the youngest of five children. His parents, Henry and Dolores Davis, lived in Milwaukee and were African-Americans. They didn't get the chance to go to college themselves. For example, his mother, Dolores, had to turn down a scholarship to Cardinal Stritch College because she needed to care for her sick mother.

Steven graduated from Messmer High School (Milwaukee). In 1980, he earned a degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. All four of his older brothers and sisters also graduated from the same university. Later, he continued his studies and earned an advanced business degree (an M.B.A.) from the University of Chicago.

What He Did in Business

Steven Davis worked for several big companies during his career. He spent nine years as an executive at Kraft Foods, which makes many popular food products. After that, he worked for Pizza Hut and YUM! Brands for 14 years. These companies own many fast-food restaurants.

In 2005, a magazine called Black Enterprise recognized his success. They named him one of the "75 Most Powerful Black Men in American Business."

Today, Steven Davis is part of several boards of directors. This means he helps guide important companies like Marathon Petroleum and Walgreens.

His Family and Awards

Steven Davis lives in New Albany, Ohio, with his wife, Lynnda. They have three daughters.

In 2014, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee honored Steven Davis with their Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award. At the award ceremony, it was announced that Steven and his family had created a scholarship in honor of his parents. This scholarship helps students who are the first in their family to attend college, especially those from minority backgrounds.
