Steven Kitshoff, born on February 10, 1992, is a famous South African rugby player. He played as a loosehead prop, which is a key position in the front row of a rugby team. Steven played for the Stormers and the South Africa national team, also known as the Springboks. He also played for teams like Bordeaux in France and Western Province in South Africa. Steven was part of the South Africa Under 20 team that won a big championship in 2012. He also helped Western Province win the Currie Cup in 2012. Steven stopped playing professional rugby in 2025 because of a serious neck injury he got in 2024.

Early Life and School

Steven Kitshoff went to Hendrik Louw Primary School. He later attended Paul Roos Gymnasium, a well-known school in South Africa.

Rugby Career Highlights

Steven Kitshoff started his professional rugby career in 2011. He was still a teenager when he first played for the Stormers. He also played for Western Province in the Currie Cup.

Becoming a Regular Player

In 2012, Steven became a regular player for both the Stormers and Western Province. He helped Western Province win the Currie Cup title that year. They had an impressive win against the Sharks in Durban.

His 2013 season with the Stormers was strong. He continued this good form into the Currie Cup. Western Province reached the final again but lost to the Sharks at home.

Injury and Return

The year 2014 was tough for Steven. He got an injury that ended his Super Rugby season early. This injury also meant he missed Western Province's successful Currie Cup campaign. His team won the title for the second time in three years. They beat the Golden Lions in a close game at Newlands.

Playing in France

In February 2015, Steven announced he would join Bordeaux. This is a French team in the Top 14 league. He played in France for two seasons.

Return to the Stormers

Steven returned to Cape Town in 2017 to play for the Stormers again. In 2021, he was named the captain of the team. He led the Stormers to win the first-ever United Rugby Championship in 2022.

He then joined Ulster for the 2023–24 season. After that season, he returned to the Stormers once more.

Retirement from Rugby

After returning from Ulster, Steven Kitshoff suffered a serious neck injury. This happened during a Currie Cup match against Griquas in 2024. He had surgery on November 20, 2024, to help with his recovery. His doctors told him the injury was very serious. On February 25, 2025, Steven Kitshoff announced he was retiring from professional rugby. He made this decision because of his injury.

On May 28, 2016, Steven was chosen for the Springbok squad. This was for a three-test match series against the Ireland team.
